on dec. 4 1956, one man brought johnny cash, jerry lee lewis, carl perkins, and elvis presley to play together for the first and only time…

Sun Records

Sun Records in Memphis, TN

That man was Sam Phillips. Amen.

I was recently in Memphis and spent a little time at the historic Sun Records. I have to tell you honestly that just walking outside of the building you could feel the creative energy flowing all around the place.

It is easy for me to love Sun Records. My dad grew me up listening to Rockabilly from Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, and Carl Perkins. It’s one of those things that we share and I’ve never stopped loving.

Here’s hoping that anyone can put a ring on it no matter who they love. #equality

I mean what’s not to love…great music, Dennis Quaid as Jerry LeeMillion Dollar Quartet, and later learning more about Johnny Cash…just a lot of fun.  When I went to see Million Dollar Quartet in Chicago with my fabulous friend Lisa Lee (see her non-Sun Records related interview in Marie Claire) it took all my self-control not to stand and shake, as Jerry Lee instructed, as was done in the movie Great Balls of Fire.

It was a good time in Memphis and then I came home and Choy proposed to me. So…we’re getting married!
