captain’s log: road trip across the usa, day 4

Last day on the road. We’ve had a good time, but we’re ready to be home again.

Choy eyes are not bigger than his stomach. He's ready for pulled pork!

Choy’s eyes are not bigger than his stomach. He’s ready for pulled pork at Oklahoma Joe’s BBQ!

We got on the road early in the morning to find a snow storm in progress. It was still pretty light snow, so we decided to get out of there before it got worse.

On the way to lunch, we stumbled upon the national historic site for Brown v. Board of Education. We drove by for pictures and then got back on the road to BBQ.

We drove for three hours to Kansas City, Kansas to eat BBQ at Oklahoma Joe’s. Oklahoma Joe’s is in a gas station and you can find it on Anthony Bourdain’s 13 Places to Eat Before You Die list. I remind  you, I am a vegetarian. I thought I was going to get kicked out for ordering a salad! Choy ordered the pulled pork and when he got his food, he didn’t say another word until his food was finished. We saved some rib bones for Ruff and he was quiet on the road as well. The Missouri side of Kansas City looks pretty legit and we’d like to go back.

We left Oklahoma Joe’s for St. Louis and dinner with my friend Lina. It was shame that when we arrived in St. Louis it was snowy/rainy and foggy. We took a few photos at the Gateway Arch. It looked pretty impressive, but the weather took from the experience.

After a few photos, Choy and I headed over to see Lina and her family for dinner. It was super nice to catch up, but the visit was too short. Choy and I will have to plan another trip to St. Louis when the weather isn’t gross.

We got back on the road after dinner and arrived at the Indianapolis Airport (to pick up our car) at 11:55pm. We pulled into the cell phone lot, put on our 2013 celebratory glasses and welcomed the new year by ending our trip. It was a great trip and we had a great time.

Happy New Year! Here is to another year of adventures!!!

Choy and I welcomed the new year with our little puppy in the cell phone lot at Indy airport. Appropriate ending to our road trip and our year.
